I'd love to tell you I come from a long line of bakers, but the truth is, I stumbled into it.
It started with a nectarine blueberry pie I baked on a whim after visiting a little roadside market. One bite, one look at my husband's face, and I was hooked. On baking, that is.
Ten years later, I finally did something that terrified me. I left my career in the medical field and took my first bakery job.
The more I baked and decorated, the more I realized I'd found something I genuinely loved.
From Sammies to Chunkers
Believe it or not, À La Mode started with an ice cream sandwich bike.
Then winter rolled around, and I realized I needed something that didn't depend on sunshine and ice cream.
So I started experimenting with thick, oversized bakery-style cookies. Those experiments became my Chunkers.
What began with just three flavors has grown into more than 25 rotating creations, and those big, ridiculously good cookies have become the heart of À La Mode.
You can usually find us at Soda City Market in Columbia, South Carolina, and at vintage markets and special events with Scout, our traveling Cookie Cottage.
